2.1 Eukaryotic Cells Flashcards
80s Ribosome function
Made up of rRNA and protein- made up of of a 60s and 40s subunit
Cell Membrane function
Outer boundary of the cytoplasm and controls the movement of substances in and out the cell
Cell Wall function
Permeable wall around plant cells, mainly made of cellulose
Chlorophyll function
Traps the energy from light, making it available for photosynthesis
Chloroplast function
Carries out photosynthesis
Cristae function
Inner membrane of mitochondria, provides a larger surface area for aerobic respiration
Cytoplasm function
Jelly like liquid that makes up the bulk of the cell
Golgi apparatus function
Modifies proteins and packages them into vesicles for transport
Mitochondria function
Site of aerobic respiration
Nucleolus function
Pure DNA and proteins are found here
Production of ribosomes and control of growth and division
Nucleus function
Contains the nucleic acids as well as protein
Surrounded by a nuclear envelope
Rough endoplasmic reticulum function
Covered in 80s ribosomes
Involved in production and transport of proteins
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum function
No ribosomes
Involved in synthesis and transport of steroids and lipids in the cell
Tonoplast function
Surrounds the vacuole and controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell sap
Vacuole function
Fluid filled cavity surrounded by a membrane
