2.1 Biomechanics & Kinesiology Flashcards
What is the study of forces that are applied to the outside & inside of the body & the body’s reaction to those forces
Biomechanics
What is the law in which a body remains at rest over a constant linear/angular velocity expect when compelled by an external force to change its state
First Law of Intertia
What is the law in which the linear/angular acceleartion of a body is directly proportional to the force causing it, takes place in the same direction in which the force/torque acts and is inversly proportional to the mass of the body
Second Law of Accerlation
What is the law in which for every force/torque there is an equal and opposite directed force/torque
Third Law of Action-Reaction
What is the motion in which the movement of a segment is in a straight line
Translatory Motion
What is the motion in which the movement of a segment is around a fixed axis in a curved path?
Rotary Motion
In what plane do the following movements occur?
- Flexion & extension
- Dorsiflexion & plantar-flexion
- Forward & backward bending
Sagittal Plane
In what plane do the following movements occur?
- ABDuction & ADDuction
- Lateral flexion
- Ulnar & Radial deviation
- Eversion & Inversion
Frontal Plane
In what plane do the following movements occur?
- Internal (medial) & external (lateral) rotation
- axial rotation
Horizontal Plane
What is the rotary or translatory displacement of a segment which is commonly located in space using 3D Cartesian coordinate system as a useful frame of reference
Center of mass
What is the force system in which two or more forces acting on the same segment lie in the same line (colinear) & in the same plane (coplanar)
Linear Force Systems
What is the force system in which for the force to be applied to the same object but with the action lines lying at angles to each other
Concurrent Force System
How can the moment arm of a force change?
When the segment rotates around its joint axis & as the segment changes its orientation in space
Where is force applied for an internal moment arm
Inside the body
Where is force applied for an external moment arm
Outside the body
