2022 MAY (done in class FW) Flashcards
outline one environmental impact of increased human pressure on aquifers (2)
- ground subsidence
- due to over abstraction
explain two ways in which water can be managed to provide a more sustainable future for local communities in countries such as these (3+3)
1
- water filters can be built
- to separate sewage and drinking water
- thereby reducing risk of disease for future generations
2
- dams can be built
- to provide irrigation water
- which can be used in the future to grow crops and improve soil fertility
- if there is a drought
explain two physical reasons why some areas have low population density (2+2)
1
- mountainous areas frequently have low population density
- as terrain is rugged and steep and infrastructure is difficult to build
2
- areas with extreme climates eg. sahara that is too hot or antarctica too cold
- leads to problems of human survival and agriculture difficult to practice
explain one economic and one cultural reason why fertility rates are decreasing (2+2)
CULTURAL:
- has been a decreasing influence of religion
- so religious influence on birth control/contraception is no longer strong in western societies
ECONOMIC
- cost of having children might be too expensive eg childcare
- so it is too expensive to have a large number of children
to what extent does the infographic support the view that e-waste is a global problem (6)
- Although e-waste is shown as a global scale issue it can also have some benefits to countries that import it
SUPPORT
- world map shows all countries send or recieve e-waste
- table below map shows its more of a problem in HICs than LICs
- norway… whereas niger…
AGAINST
- many valuable minerals can be recovered from e waste such as gold
- recycling also provides jobs
