2020 NOV (done in class P) Flashcards
one environmental problem caused by eutrophication (2)
- fish die
- due to oxygen depletion
explain one human and one physical reason why some areas of freshwater lakes experience high levels of eutrophication (3+3)
HUMAN
- the runoff from farming into particular parts of the lake
- carries high amounts of nitrates
- that were used as fertilisers
PHYSICAL
- an area of water with many rivers draining into it
- will receive more inputs of dissolved nutrients in solution
- leading to excessive algae growth and therefore eutrophication in that area
suggest two socio-economic problems that could result from the projected population trend (2+2)
1
- ageing population
- means more money needs to be spent on state pensions
2
- declining population
- means there’s a smaller workforce
- so people will be made to stay in work for longer
explain two ways in which one named country benefits from a demographic dividend (2+2)
1
- South Korea is a demographic dividend which means there’s an increase in economic growth
- due to more of an independent population that provides workforce
2
- South korea also has an increase in savings rate
- working age is the prime period for saving for old age in the future
to what extent might this infographic make australians more concerned about energy security
- overall tone is pessimistic and gives feeling of vulnerability so makes more concerned
MORE CONCERNED
- fuel supply could run out in weeks
- conflict in middle east and impacts on financial stability, costs of fuel increases
- reliance on imports
LESS CONCERNED
- australia has abundant renewable and non renewable energy resources
- many of the risks are just predictions rather than issues
