2021 coasts Flashcards
Outline the role of waves in the transportation of sediments at the
coast.
construe waves are when there is a bigger swash than back wash.
They bring sediment on to a beach.
destructive waves remove sediment from the beache
s.
Back wash is a major factor in determining weather sedimement is eroded or deposited.
Other geomoagrpahical process such as long shore drift cause waves to transport sediment along a coastline.
PEDLAV QUESTIONS ON THE COAST OF EUROPE.
P -The medi coastlines are are all either eroding or stable. The more exposed a place the more erosion happening.
E - Portugal.
D-
L-s very different across different parts of EUROPE.
A- However caniereies are both exposed coastline but experiencing stability.
V- this source is not very reelable as the picture around Jutland is hard to make out.
how do spits form
when the coastline suddenly changes direction and longshore drift suddenly changes direction.- forming a simple spit.this happens through process such as sololution and traction.
spits questions on relative importance
the recurved end of the spit can been seen due to a change in wind direction.
ultimately its more a combination of small factor coming together to form a spit , however it could be argued that having sediment is key.
Link the pedal question to the figure. spit questions
large amount of sediment of the boulder coastline that can be easy transported through longshore drift.
You need a healthy input of lsedument.
An internal mud flat
Outline the concept of the Hazard Management Cycle.
the hazard management cycle explains how to manage hazards.their a 4 steps.
preparedness about using data from previous hazards for the next event.
Response is about trying to prevent any further damage occurring from the hazard.
For example firebridgade after an volcanic eruption.
Recovery is about how to best back get to a normal socio-ecominc level..
