2015 Stuff Flashcards
What’s a neutron
Has no charge and are found in the nucleus
What’s an electron
It has a negative charge and are found on shells
Metal+water=
Metal hydroxide+hydrogen
What’s an ionic bond
When oppositely charged joined together by electrostatic force of attraction
What are covalent bonds
A chemical bond between two non metals and they share electrons
What rock is limestone
Sedimentary
What is in limestone
Calcium carbonate (CaCO3)
What is limestone used for
Buildings, roads
How is cement made
Heating together limestone and clay in a rotary kiln
How is calcium oxide produced
Industrially in a lime kiln
Why does limewater turn cloudy
Because calcium carbonate reacts as its a solid and solid particles of insoluble calcium carbonate are formed as a precipitate
What’s a precipitate
A suspended solid in a solution but light can’t pass through it
Metal carbonate+acid=
Salt+water+carbon dioxide
Copper carbonate + sulphuric acid=
Copper sulphate+carbon dioxide+water
The limestone cycle:
CaCO3 -> CaO + CO2
CaO + H2O -> Ca(OH)2
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 -> CaCO3 + H2O
How is mortar made
Cement and sans
What’s an ore
A rock which contains metal to make it economically worthwhile to extract the metal
What’s the most reactive metal
Potassium
What’s the least reactive metal
Platinum
What’s a displacement reaction
When a more reactive element takes the place of a less reactive element
More reactive metal + less reactive metal ->
More reactive metal compound + less reactive metal
What’s a proton
Found in nucleus and has a positive charge
