You can improve urban sustainability in LONDON (reduce damage to the environment by):
- WATER CONVERSATION - collection rainwater for garden, water meters
- ENERGY CONSERVATION - insulating homes & business, low energy lighting, triple glazed windows to keep in the heat
- RECYCLE WASTE - ‘reduce, reuse, recycle & using ‘grey’ water to flush toilets
- CREATING GREEN SPACES - planting more trees - eg Queen Elizabeth Park
- ENCOURAGING USE OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT - extended the underground JUBILEE LINE encourages more people to take the underground and leave car & pollution
- OYSTER CARDS - 1 ticket for all travel eg bus, train, underground - quick & efficient
- CONGESTION CHARGING ZONES - charge high costs to take cars into central London - discourages people to use cars and they will use public transport instead improve pollution
- BIKE SHARING SCHEME - ‘BORIS BIKES’ hire them - cheap, easy, quick - reduce traffic congestion & pollution
