2 - System Basics Flashcards
1
Q
Input / Output
A
The first signal entering the block diagram
2
Q
Disturbances
A
Represents unwanted inputs which affect the control-system’s output, and result in an increase of the system error
3
Q
Open Loop
A
Refers to a control system for an operation or process in which there is no self-correcting action.
Advantages:
- Simple to design
- Cheaper to build
- Maintenance is low
Disadvantages:
- Systems require calibration
- More prone to error
- Cannot adjust for disturbances
4
Q
Closed Loop
A
Senses the system’s output and controls the signal going to the actuator
Advantages:
- Allows for an accurate, consistent response
- System can adjust for noise and disturbances
Disadvantages:
- More complex
- More expensive
- More prone to failure due to complex parts
