what are different causes of rhinitis?
- non infective = can be allergic (intermittent or persistent) or non allergic (vasomotor rhinitis or polyps)
- infective = 98% viral rhinosinusitis
what is treatment of infective rhinosinusitis?
analgesia & decongestants (add antibiotic if persistent)
what is management of allergic rhinosinusitis?
- avoid allergen
- antihistamines
- topical steroids
what is orbital cellulitis?
complication of acute sinusitis
how do you treat nasal polyps?
oral then topical steroids
= if still unresolved then surgery
what drug class is
a) pseudoephedrine?
b) ipratropium?
a) decongestant
b) anticholinergic
what is hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia? presents
= autosomal dominant condition leading to telangiectasia
PRESENTS - nose bleeds, GI bleeds, haemoptysis, anaemia
what is management of hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia?
- educate
- keep nose moistened w vaseline & normal 1st aid on nosebleeds
what is rhinosinusitis? management?
= infection causing inflammation of paranasal sinuses
- get discomfort over frontal & maxillary sinuses & nasal congestion
MANAGEMENT = normal like paracetamol, saline irrigation, decongestants (if worse after 10 days then topical steroids or antibiotics like phenoxymethylpenicillin or doxy)
