Steady slow regular brain waves and breathing and heart rate. lack of movement
What characterises active sleep?
REM. dreams and rapid under-lid eye movement

newborns 50%
3-4 yr olds 20%
thought to make up for lack of external stimuli/stimulation of visual cortex in newborns
it helps the visual cortex develop
What is the weight of a low birth weight infant
less than 5.5.lbs
What re the two types of Low birth weight infants?
- SGA small for gestational age -born after 35 weeks
- premature -born before or on 35 weeks
What happens to Low birth weight infants?
they get their parents to touch them lots. although they may have more complications at birth they often grow to be completely healthy
