2. Nerve and Blood supply to the upper limb Flashcards
Describe the radial artery
- Lateral side of the forearm
- Smaller of the 2 terminal branches
- Covered by brachioradialis muscle
- Forms deep palmer arch
Describe the ulna artery
- Medial side of the forearm
- Covered by flexor carpi ulnaris muscle
- Deep branch- common interosseuous artery
- Forms superficial palmer arch
- Gives of palmer digital arteries
Describe the Venous return of the upper limb
Always Drains into axillary nerve which drains into subclavian vein in IVC
-Deep veins- usually paired
- Superficial veins from dorsal venous arch
- cephalic(lateral forearm)
- basilic(medial forearm)
Lymphatic drainage of upper limb
lymph drains into axillary nodes
Associated with the cephalic vein are deltopectoral nodes
Associated with the basilic vein are cubital nodes
What muscles does the dorsal scapular nerve supply?
Rhomboids and levator scapula
What muscle does the long thoracic nerve supply?
Serratus anterior
What are myotomes?
Blocks of muscle supplied by individual spinal nerves
Principal motor innervation of C5?
Shoulder muscles
Principal motor innervation of C6?
Flexor compartment of arm
Principal motor innervation of C7?
Extensor compartment of arm
Flexor and extensor compartments of forearm are innervated by which spinal root nerve?
C7/8
Principal motor innervation of T1?
Intrinsic muscles of hand
Roots form trunks. Name the trunks in the brachial plexus?
trunks pass through scalene triangle
-superior, middle, inferior
What is the axillary artery closely associated to?
posterior cord
Damage to surgical neck of humerus can lead to damage to which vessels?
axillary artery
