epidemiology: why is it important to do prophylactic flea control to animals and to environment?
re-infection common > fleas in envi infection quickly
disease symptoms
mostly asymptomatic > itching perianal region> dog scooting!!!
diagnostic method: where to find segments / eggs and what method to use?
proglottids in perianal region / faeces - soak proglottids in water, between 2 glasses or break open > detecting eggs: flotation/sedimentation, egg packets, false neg. non reliable
why flotation method often unreliable / false negative?
might miss parasites
what is main prophylactic / prevention method?
prasiquanltel , control of fleas and lice !
