2. Glycogenesis, signal pathway Flashcards

Steps, location, importance. Regulation, signal pathways of glucagon/adrenaline and insulin.

1
Q

What happens during glycogenesis?

A

Glucose gets stored as glycogen, often when the blood sugar level is high.

Q

What happens during glycogenolysis?

A

Q

Importance, location and regulation of glycogenesis:

A

Importance: regulation of blood sugar, store glucose. Location: In every tissue (cytoplasm), but especially in liver (hepatocyte) and muscle tissue. Regulation: Glycogen synthase and glycogen phosphorylase in glycogenolysis.

Q

What is the purpose of Glycogenesis?

A

The primary purpose of glycogenesis is to make sure the body does not run out of glucose. Glucose is important as it is the body’s primary source of energy. Without an adequate supply of glucose in the body, vital organs will eventually shut down.
