18. Absorbtion and circulation of lipids, lipolysis, lipogenesis Flashcards

18. Absorbtion and circulation of lipids in the organism. Lipolysis. Steps, location, regulation, importance. Lipogenesis. Steps, location, regulation, importance.

1
Q

Why is lipids in the organism important?

A

-Storage form of energy -Adipose tissue and the liver are important pools of lipids. -For isolation and heat -Support internal organs -It is important for the resorption of fat soluble vitamins -Essential nutritional factors (linoleic acid)

Q

How does the lipids move?

A

-They are stored in adipose tissue as triacylglycerols, it is a fuel storage. The mobilization is initiated by the hormone sensitive lipase enzyme, it removes the FA. -Free FA can move through the membranes and connect to albumin and continue to tissue.

Circulation of lipids:

A

After absorption bu the intestinal mucosa cells, resynthesis of triacylglycerols happen. Packed VLDL form a complex with chylomicrons in the plasma with cholesterol ester and then to the lymph to different tissues.
