2 - ecological system and family Flashcards
1
Q
macrosystem
A
- describes the cultural context in which individuals live
- evolve over time
2
Q
family subsystems
A
- marital subsystems
- parent subsystems
- sibling subsystems
- extended family
3
Q
family as a family system theory: definition
A
- family members adapt certain behaviour based on place in family
- sociocultural theory of abnormal behaviour
psychologist: murray bowen
4
Q
chronosystem
A
- patterning of enviornmental events and transitions over the life course, as well as sociohistorical circumstances
5
Q
family system: basic concepts
A
- nuclear family emotional system: describes 4 basic relationship patterns that govern where problems are in a family
- differentiation of self: people with low self-differentiation have trouble distinguishing themselves from the rest of the family unit
- triangles: when 2 people are involved in conflict, might pull another person into conflict
- family projection process: parents who have fears or emotional problems can pass those on to their children through projection
- multigenerational transmission process: family patterns repeat through generations
- emotional cutoff: when someone avoids issues they have with their family by cutting them off
- sibling position: birth order affects personality and relationships
- societal emotional process
6
Q
bronfenbrenner ecological system
A
- children’s development is best understood by examining context of child’s enviornment
- ecological theory enphasises enviornmental factors as playing major role to development
- microsystem
- mesosystem
- exosystem
- macrosystem
- chronosystem
7
Q
mesosystem
A
- interactions between different parts of a person’s microsystem
- development could be affected in negative way if the different elements of microsystem were working against another
8
Q
life cycles of a family
A
- unattached young adult
- newly married couple
- family with young children
- family with adolescents
- launching family
- family in later years
9
Q
microsystem
A
- individual (family, neighbours, peers, school)
- institutions + groups that most immediately and directly impact child’s development
- most influential level
10
Q
exosystem
A
- setting that doesn’t involve the person as an active participant but still affects them
- includes decisions that have bearing on the person but in which they have no participation in the decision making process
