Q

What is a molecule? What group doesn’t form molecules and why?

A

2+ atoms bonded chemically. Noble gasses because they are already stable, whereas other atoms need to share/transfer electrons to become stable thus creating molecules.

Q

What is an ion and it’s subtypes?

A

Atom that has lost/gained electrons rendering it electrically charged. Cation: positive charge (loses). Anion: negative charge (gains).

Q

What is a covalent bond? What is polarity?

A

Both atoms need electrons, so they share in pairs. Stronger atom (more p+) is more electroneg. (pulls share e- closer to itself) being negatively polarized while the other is pos. polarized. (dipole δ+ or δ- curly S)
