2.) AGA - Aerodromes Flashcards
The elevation of the highest point on the landing area.
Aerodrome Elevation
The designated geographical location of an aerodrome. Usually the centre of the longest runway.
Aerodrome Reference Point (ARP)
Runway holding position
A designated position intended to protect a runway, an obstacle limitation surface, or an ILS/MLS critical/sensitive area at which taxiing aircraft and vehicles shall stop and hold, unless otherwise authorised by the aerodrome control tower.
A defined rectangular area on a land aerodrome prepared for the landing and take-off of aircraft.
Runway
Taxiway and 3 types
A defined path on an aerodrome established for the taxiing of aircraft and intended to provide a link between one part of the aerodrome and another, including;
- Aircraft Stand Taxi Lane
- Apron Taxiway
- Rapid Exit Taxiway
A portion of an apron designated as a taxiway and intended to provide access to aircraft stands only
Aircraft Stand Taxi Lane
A portion of a taxiway system located on an apron and intended to provide a through taxi route across the apron.
Apron Taxiway
Rapid Exit Taxiway
A taxiway connected at an acute angle and designed to allow landing aeroplanes to turn off at higher speeds than are achieved on other exit taxiways and thereby minimising runway occupancy times.
Rapid Exit Taxiways - proportions
Intersection angle not less than 25˚, not greater than 45˚. Preferably 30˚.
Movement of an aircraft on the surface of an aerodrome under its own power, excluding take-off and landing
Taxiing
- A defined area, intended to accommodate aircraft for purposes of loading or unloading passengers, mail or cargo, fuelling, parking or maintenance.
Apron
- That part of an aerodrome to be used for the take-off, landing and taxiing of aircraft, excluding aprons
Manoeuvring area
- That part of an aerodrome to be used for the take-off, landing and taxiing of aircraft, consisting of the manoeuvring area and the apron(s)
Movement areas
Non-instrument runway
- A runway intended for the operation of aircraft using visual approach procedures.
Non-precision approach runway
An instrument runway served by visual aids and a non visual aid providing at least directional guidance adequate for a straight-in approach.
