16.) ATM - Departing Traffic Flashcards
Departure sequence
Start up consideration
- Consider start-up and taxi times and also holding point congestion.
- Don’t allow aircraft to start too early, they have a 15 min window before and after FPL departure time and -5 +10 if on a CTOT.
- If earlier, they’ll wait at the holding point burning fuel.
- A B747 will take approx 15 min to start and push-back.
- Light aircraft engines may overheat (air cooled).
- Pilots should be aware of CTOT times, but often are not. If necessary call on RT or get Operations to pass. Do not allow start up if missed CTOT or awaiting ready message reply
How will departures be ordered?
Departures shall normally be cleared in the order in which they are ready for take-off, except that -
Deviations may be made from this order of
priority to facilitate the maximum number of
departures with the least average delay
Factors which should be considered in relation to the
departure sequence include:
• Types of aircraft and their relative performance.
• Routes to be followed after take-off.
• Any specified minimum departure interval between take-offs.
• Need to apply wake turbulence separation minima.
• Aircraft which should be afforded priority.
• Aircraft subject to ATFM requirements
Separation of departing traffic
departing aircraft will not normally be permitted to
commence take-off until the preceding departing
aircraft has:
• Crossed the end of the runway-in-use, or
• Started a turn, or
• Until all preceding landing aircraft are clear of the
runway-in-use
