What did the Kadets do?

A
  • Strikes amongst industrial workers, led by Milyukov persuaded liberal groups to join together as ‘Union of Unions’.
  • Aimed to include peasants and factory owners.
  • Declaration issued, referred to gov as ‘a terrible menace’, wanted a constituent assembly to replace the ‘gang of robbers’.

What happened in the Potemkin mutiny?

A
  • June, 1905 battleship ‘Prince Potemkin’ at Black Sea Naval Squadron mutinied over food.
  • Elected representative Vakulenchuk to approach captain and was immediately shot.
  • Soldiers retaliated, took over but other ships wouldn’t join.
  • Went to Port Odessa where many strikes were taking place but the authorities simply massacred them, showing not all soldiers lost loyalty.

A

The Soviet.
Industrial workers in St. Petersburg and Moscow formed themselves into elected Soviet.
Demanded better working conditions.
Trotsky became Chairman of St. Petersburg Soviet.
