What were the 3 main causes of the October 1905 revolution.
. Russia’s large industrialist expansion had driven many people into the cities in search of work. Conditions, both living and working, and wages were very bad. This raised discontent among the working class’s and caused some to support radical parties.
. Famines and bad harvests led to peasants becoming dissatisfied with the Tsar after he did nothing to help them.
. Russia’s recent defeat in the Russo Japanese war had drained Russia’s resources and as a result large scale famines occurred, this served to raise discontent among all of Russia’s people.
What was the October Manifesto and what problems did it solve?
. The October Manifesto was a Manifesto for introduced by the Tsar on the advice of Witte.
. A legislative state Duma was created which acted much like the British parliament and reduced the power of the Tsar by giving power to electorates chosen by the people. It appeased the Liberals.
. The hated redemption payments were abolished which served to pacify the peasants.
What were the Fundamental laws and what did they state?
. The Fundamental laws were issued by the Tsar in 1906 and they essentially stripped the Duma of most of its powers and undid nearly everything stated in the October Manifesto.
. It stated that the Tsar approves the laws and without his approval no laws can come into existence.
. It stated that that only the Tsar can elect Duma ministers.
How did the Tsar deal with the Urban workers and their radical parties?
. The Tsar used oppression to quell the Bolshevik/ Soviet risings in Moscow and St Petersburg.
. The military was sent in to quell the revolutionaries and key revolutionary leaders and many others were captured, executed or banished.
