VERTICAL CANAL ONLY - otitis externa, no hyperplastic changes, access to remove polyp

Why do you get complications after lateral wall resection?
Bad case selection, not continuing medical management
What are indication for vertical canal ablation?
If disease is only in vertical canal (so not many)
What can be a complication of vertical canal ablation?
Stenosis of horizontal canal opening (as will granulate if not perfectly apposed)
What are the indications for TECA?
End stage, neoplasia, poor QoL
What must a TECA always be combined with?
LBO
What are some complications of TECA?
Damage to facial nerve (temporary, may need eye drops), deaf, vestibular problems, chronic para-oral abscess which needs repeat surgery
What are indications for ventral bulla osteotomy?
Polyps, primary otitis media, bulla neoplasia (can access both bullae and better exposure and less chance of damaging the facial nerve, BUT can’t use for otitis media)
