1.7 Digital Deisgn And Manufacture Flashcards
CAM processes
Lazer cutting: uses high energy lasers to cut or vaporise materials and compressed gas or air to blow waste material away, leaving a clean edge. Two dimensional drawings are downloaded to a lazer cutter which is convert the drawing into a CNC program. Where the program moves the lazer to cut out the design.
Routing: both 2D and 3D CAD drawings can be downloaded to CNC routers. They usually used to cut metal sheets as laser cutters aren’t stronger enough to. It can also cut thicker materials like high density modelling foam and blocks of timber
Key terms
CNC= computer numerically controlled which is using a program to conver Cad drawing to CAM equipment
Finite element = using software to test components and products to identify potential stress or weak points.
Electronic point of sales= shop tills or similar that use barcodes or computer entry to transmit customers orders to suppliers
