1.6 Type Of Production Flashcards
What is one- off production?
Always known as job production
Products which are made unique, more expensive, as well as harder to produce as it is on smaller scales, more time consuming
Examples: personalises suit, fitted wardrobe, altered clothing
What is batch production?
Manufacturing processes are carried out simultaneously on the number of products in order to make the process more efficient and cost-effective.
Examples: pottery, wooden furniture and high quality loudspeakers
What is mass production?
This is when you divide up, the tasks needed in order to must produce a product in large quantities, using a sequence of stages, this is large scale production
Examples: TVs, cameras, clothes, mobile phones
What is continuous production?
Continuous production is the constant production of products, which are always in demand, usually large scale production with a high set up cost
Example: toilet, paper clothes, food
What is quick response manufacturing? QRM
This is the amount of time taken to respond to orders for a part or a product this is known as lead time. one of the methods of reducing QRM is a strategy for drastically, reducing the time between a product to be in a concept and being completed.
The whole strategy is focused on going through design process and developing products to meet. Customers needs quickly.
What is vertical in-house production?
This is an arrangement in which the supply chain of a company is owned by that company. Those statues for vertical in-house productions set up their manufacturing in such a way that they minimise the need for external suppliers.
Advantages:
Reduce the risk of unexpected price increases, easier to implement quality assurance strategies
Disadvantages:
Reduction in flexibility , increase in administration
