What are some significant things we must do when treating someone in custody?
Aboriginal Legal Services (ALS) must be notified every time an Aboriginal person is in custody.
Prisoners not easily roused must be given medical treatment
Alarm/intercom systems installed in every cell
All custodial facilities to have CPR equipment (Police stations have defibrillators)
Screening and risk assessments conducted for people taken into custody
Officers must be aware of the medical conditions, and follow. If they’re unwell, get an ambulance.
