16.) RNA Interference and miRNA's Flashcards
Describe the model for miRNA synthesis.
Slide 10.
What are miRNA’s? siRNA’s? RNAi’s?
miRNA’s: micro RNA’s. Block translation of certain mRNA’s. Method of gene regulation at the level of translation.
siRNA’s: small interfering RNAs. Direct degradation of certain mRNA’s. Promote establishment of compact chromatin structures. General function = turn off gene expression at the level of transcription.
RNAi = RNA interference. It is a term to describe the action of miRNA’s
Describe the model for miRNA function.
Slide 12.
What are the differences between synthesis and function of miRNA in plants and animals?
Slide 19.
What role do miRNA’s play in the body?
(???)
