PHC as key to attaining the goal of health for all
According to ALMA-ATA, PHC is
-essential health care based on practical, scientifically sound, socially acceptable methods and technology made universally accessible to individuals and families in the community thru their full participation and affordable to all
PHC form
an inetgral part of both the country’s health system of which its the central function and main focus and overall social and economic development of community
PHC is
1st level of contact between people and national health system bringing health care as close as possible to where people live and work
Ideal Clinic IC programme was started by
South African National DOH in July 2013
IC programme was started to
systemically improve and correct deficincies in PHC clinics in public sector
Deficencies in PHCc were picked by
NDOH baseline standards audit in 2011-12 including the following inspections of the office of health standards compliance OHSC
An Ideal Cinic IC is a clinic with
-good infrastructure
-adequate staff
-adequate medicine and supplies
-good admin processes
-adequate bulk supplies
-use applicable clinical policies, protocols and guidelines
-use partner and stakeholder support

ICSM is a health system strengthening model and is an important focus within IC
Aim of ICSM
deliver integrated care to patients with chronic/acute diseases or who come for preventive services by taking patient-centric view
