-speech/behavioural/psychiatric signs

What are key features of mesenteric iscahemia?
Abdo pain out of proportion Bloody diarrhoea Vomiting Fever VBG/ABG shows features of lactic acidosis
What are symptoms of haemochromatosis?
Fatigue Erectile dysfunction Bronze pigmentation of the skin Arthralgia- often of the hands Hepatomegaly Hypogonadism
What investigations are needed for haemochromatosis?
Transferrin and iron studies
- low TIBC
- raised ferritin
- raised transferrin saturation
What is the management of Wilsons disease?
Penicillamine= 1st line
Trientine can be used 2nd line
What risk factors are associated with non alcoholic fatty liver disease?
Obesity
T2DM
Hyperlipidaemia
Sudden weight loss or starvation
What are key features of non alcoholic fatty liver disease?
Asymptomatic
Hepatomegaly
ALT normally massively raised compared to ALT
Increased echogenicity on USS
What are risk factors of primary sclerosing cholangitis?
UC
HIV
Crohns- less common
What are features of primary sclerosing cholangitis?
RUQ pain
Fatigue
Jaundice- raised bilirubin and ALP
Pruritis
What are the investigations for primary sclerosing cholangitis?
MRCP or ERCP are first line
What are AXR findings of gallstone ileus?
Small bowel obstruction
Dilated gallbladder
What symptoms does E.coli infection cause?
Watery diarrhoea
Abdominal cramps
Nausea
Recent travel
In Hepatitis B what is the infection status if a patient is anti HbS positive and IgG anti HbC positive?
Previous infection, natural immunity
If IgG negative then implies immunity due to vaccination
