A document sent to prospective contractors by a Government agency, requesting the submission of offers or information.

- Invitation for Bids (IFBs) – FAR 14
- Requests for Proposals (RFPs) – FAR 15
- Requests for Quotations (RFQs) – FAR 13
How long must a synopsis be posted before solicitation?

What forms are used for solicitation?
- Standard Form 33, Solicitation, Offer and Award – IFBs and RFPs
- Standard Form 18, Request for Quotations – Used for Simplified Acquisition Procedures
- Standard Form 1449, Solicitation/Contract/Order for Commercial Items – Used with commercial and other than commercial items
