18
Q

structural formula

A

19
Q

displayed formula

A

regular picture formula

20
Q

skeletal formula

A

minimalist picture formula missing out elements and replacing them with vertices etc.

21
Q

VderW or London forces

A

more electrons and surface area means more VderW forces, a fluctuating centre of charge moves and causes one side of the mol to be slightly more or less +ve than the other side causing an attraction.

22
Q

Permanent Dipole-Dipole Reactions

A

A slightly more or less +ve side caused by different amount of electrons, not present in pure hydrocarbons

23
Q

Hydrogen Bonding

A

between H mols and electronegative mols, one side of the bond is +ve and the other is -ve, can mix with water

24
Q

Ethene + Br2 (an electropile) makes

A

Dibromo-ethane in an electrophile addition reaction

25
Ethene + H2 makes
Ethane in a hydrogenation reaction
26
Monomer
Small units that can be bonded to make polymers
27
n (ethene) makes
-[ethane]-n
28
Polymer of tetrafluoroethane
poly(tetrafluoroethane)
29
hdensity polymers vs ldensity polymers
HD:formed at low temp & med pressure, straight chains, high intermol forces, high bpt. vs LD: formed at high temp and high pressure, branched chains.
30
thermosoftening polymers vs thermosetting polymers
TSo: cant slide, strong intermol forces, break not stretch, high melting point. vs TSe: solid if cold and soft when warm, weak intermol forces, chains slide, low melting points
