What were the main reasons for migration in 1500-1700
How changes in Religion, Economy and Government impacted migration in the
‘Early modern’ era of 1500-1700
England changed from being a catholic country to a
Protestant country.(Protestants were Christians who protested against the
Catholic churches teachings and set up their own churches)
European protestants under Catholic rulers, especially
French Huguenots, saw England as a place of safety
after many massacres.
When a Catholic, James II became King and had a son, his protestant sister, Mary, was invited by Parliament to invade and rule with her husband, William of Orange
what did James ii do and what bill was signed after giving more power to parliament
Met no real resistance, James II fled. This is
known as the 1688 ‘Glorious revolution’
In 1689 signed a Bill of rights and more power
was given to Parliament
