Users have open access its public
Examples:
Web pages to shop or watch videos
Business context of web pages:
Advertise their products and allow customers to purchase items
Intranet
A private network which is only accessible to authorised users
E.g a member of a business or a school
Private and users have “closed access”
Business example:
Allow for employees to see sales and performance of data or for communication as it can be accessed remotely
Extranet
Private network, accessible using the internet, only provides access to authorised users
Private and users have shared access within the extranet
Example:
Hotel booking companies allow hotel owners to log in via the internet to access and update their information
Network characteristics
Several characteristics to consider when connecting to WWW technologies:
1) Speed (how quick data can be accessed)
2) Security (how likely the data will be kept secure)
3) Access levels (refers to who can see “what” in terms of data and files)
4) Accessibility (relates to “how available the data is”)
