1.5 Heart Flashcards
Atrial systole
Atria contract, SL closed, AV open, blood pushed into ventricles
Diastole
All chambers relaxed, SL closed, AV open…blood into atria
Ventricular systole
Ventricles contract, SL open, AV closed, blood pushed through aorta and pulmonary arteries
Cardiac output
Heart rate x stroke volume
Cardiac cycle
SAN sends electrical impulse, non conductive tissue stops it getting to ventricles, AVN send next impulse with slight delay, to BOH, ventricles contract apex up
Artheroma
Fatty deposits within artery wall, plaque forms of cholesterol and fibres, lumen narrows
Thrombosis
Atheroma breaks through lining, clot forms, prevents oxygen and glucose teaching tissue
Aneurysm
A balloon like swelling at weakened wall section, fills with blood
