1.4 Lungs Flashcards
Bronchioles
Muscle, constrict and control flow into alveoli
Bronchi
Contains mucus and cilli
Pulmonary ventilation =
Tidal volume x ventilation rate
Inspiration
External intercostal contract, internal relax. Ribs up and out, diaphragm contracts, increased volume of thorax, decreased lung pressure
Pulmonary TB
Spread by bacteria in droplets, bacteria divide in upper area of lungs, inflammation, destroy tissue
Pulmonary fibrosis
Scars on epithelium tissue, thickens, elasticity reduced so ventilation is harder, reduced volume
Pulmonary fibrosis symptoms
Breath shortness, chronic dry cough, pain, fatigue
Asthma
Histamine released due to allergen, inflamed airways, bronchioles contract
Emphysema
Elastin stretched, alveoli Area reduced, shortness of breath, chronic cough, blue skin
