What is Contingency management strategy
Aims to increase the amount of positive reinforcement from non-drug sources
How is abstinence measures and trated
Detected by urine analysis. Absitinence is rewarded. Drug use -> loss of reinforcement
What is the procedure of Contingency management
- Set objective/target behavior
- Choose reinforcers
- Set reinforcment schedule

Types of reinforcement schedule
Fixed - all recieve same reinforcer
Progressive - target behaviors are worth increasing values of reinforcers
Variable - changes to change behavior in long term
Is contingency management effective
Effective in reducing smoking but smokers return if reinforcers are withdrawn
How is contingency managemnt best used
In conjunction with other treatments
What are juvenile drug courts
Courts that focus on individuals who are convicted with primary substance use issues. Help monitor progress and check in with judge regularly
What is the post adjudication model
Sentence of incarceration suspended pending successful completion of drug court. Plead guilty THEN complete the program to avoid further prosecution
What do the drug courts do
Develop comprehensive treatment plans to address issues. Collaborate with family to provide treament. Monitor youth progress, Feedback is provided
Effectiveness of drug courts
Promising model. Effects are stronger when combined with other evidence based programs
Do drug courts have same impact for all backgrounds
NO. Better outcomes for whites, women, older indiciduals, better educated and less crime. But high risk have more to gain from drug court
