What do antibiotics do?
Can kill infective bacteria inside the body.
Can help cure diseases caused by bacteria.
Doesn’t kill all types of bacteria.
How does natural selection lead to resistance?
When you take antibiotics they kill many of the bacteria that are making you ill. However, one or two bacteria may have a chance mutation that makes them resistant to the antibiotic. These few bacteria survive. You may feel better and stop taking the antibiotics. The few resistant bacteria start to multiply. They pass their resistance to their offspring.
What’s the full name for MRSA?
Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus
Can bacteria become resistant to antibiotics, the patient or both?

Why can’t antibiotics be used to kill viruses?
Viruses do not carry out any life processes. They get inside your cells and force your cells to make more copies of them.
What do painkillers do?
Do not kill the pathogens but make us feel better while our immune system or antibiotics (or both) kill the pathogens.
What do antivirals do?
Stop your cells making copies of viruses.
