Eating the wrong amount or types of food. A person is malnourished if their diet isn’t balanced.
What may malnourishment lead to?
Being too fat/thin
A deficiency disease
What causes rickets and what does it lead to?
Caused by lack of vitamin D in the diet
Children with rickets have soft, bendy bones that can become deformed. They may have a curved spine or enlarged skull.
If you use more energy that you get from food, what happens?
You will lose body mass
What is a health problem that is caused by being underweight?
Girls and women have irregular periods.
What can being overweight cause?
Health issues like type 2 diabetes.
Can genes (inherited factors) affect cholesterol levels?

Where is cholesterol found?
In animal tissue
Why do we need cholesterol?
It strengthens your cell membranes
Your body uses it to make your sex hormones
Your body uses it to make vitamin D
What can having too much cholesterol in your blood lead to?
It increases your risk of heart disease
Where can you get cholesterol?
Eating animal products such as meat, prawns and eggs.
Your liver makes it from saturated fats that you eat like butter, chocolate and fatty meat.
What do statins do?
Reduces the level of cholesterol made by the body.
It inhibits an enzyme involved in making cholesterol
