12.1 Cortex 1 Flashcards
What is the archicortex, what is its role and what does it connect with?
Hippocampus
Particular role in memory of places and spatial relationships; where you are in the environment
Has connections with medial thalamus, hypothalamus, amygdala and entorhinal cortex
What is the paleocortex, what is its role and what is the input and output?
Cingulate and parahippocampal gyri
Representations of pain and emotional sensations
Input from other areas of Cx, principle output through limbic pathway
What is the role of the entorhinal cortex?
Recieves information from all areas of the neocortex, and especially from multimodal association areas and is teh major interface between the hippocampus and the neocortex in processing learning and memory
What is the role of the hippocampus
STM - LTM
What is the role of the amygdala?
modulates aggression and rage
How many layers does the Cx have?
6
Which layer do cortical areas interact with eachother?
2 and 3
Which layer does the primary sensory Cx input?
4
Which layer has the output to M1?
5 and 6
What layer does the thalamus input into?
4
Which layer has its output to the thalamus?
6
What are the 3 types of cortex?
Archicortex
Paleocortex
Neocortex
