Data Set
Once information has been collected, the collection is called a data set.
Individuals
Can be people, animals, plants or things, that can have features collected about them.
Variables
The characteristics of the individuals, about which we collect information.
Data
The values of the variables that we obtain.
Qualitative Variables
Also called categorical variables, classify individuals into categories. Usually non-numerical (don’t tell how much or how many).
Categorical Variables
Also called qualitative variables, classify individuals into categories.
Quantitative Variables
Numerical and tell how much or how many of something there is.
Ordinal Variables
Can be put in order.
Nominal Variables
Cannot be put in order (except alphabetical)
Discrete Variables
Values are whole numbers
Continuous Variables
Values can be any real number on an interval
