12. Respiration Flashcards
The balanced symbol equation for respiration.
C 6 H 12 O 6 + 6 O 2 –> 6 CO 2 + 6 H 2 O + ATP
define respiration.
the movement of oxygen from the outside environment to the cells within the tissues, and the transport of carbon dioxide in the opposite direction
List the 4 stages in aerobic respiration
glycolysis

what is glycolysis, list the steps
The first stage of anaerobic and aerobic respiration.
It occurs in the cytoplasm and is an anaerobic process.
Glycolysis has the following steps…
- phosphorylation of glucose to glucose phosphate, using ATP
- production of triose phosphate
- oxidation of triose phosphate to pyruvate with a net gain of ATP and reduced NAD.
what are the products of glycolysis?
net gain of 2 molecules of ATP
2 molecules of reduced NAD
2 molecules of pyruvate
