12 - immune-mediated arthritis Flashcards
1
Q
initial site of pathology is synovium (unlike OA where it is articular cartilage)
A
2
Q
(nonerosive forms)
- characterized by deposition of what?
A
- antigen-antibody deposition in the synovium (type III hypersensitivity) -> stimulate inflammatory mediator release -> metalloproteinases -> cartilage degen
3
Q
(erosive forms)
- what is an erosive form?
A
- rheumatoid arthritis (IgG becomes antigenic - rheumatoid factor is formed in response)
4
Q
A
5
Q
what are the four types of non-erosive arthritis (by cause)
A
- idiopathic (50%)
- remote infection (25%)
- chronic GI dz (15%)
- remote neoplasia (10%)
6
Q
(rheumatoid arthritis)
- most common canine erosive arthritis but less common than non-erosive
- affects what size dogs?
A
- smaller breed dogs of any age
7
Q
(diagnosis)
- perform px - may see splenomegaly and lymphadenopathy
- what % of dogs with nonerosive form have dermatitis or focal alopecia?
A
- 30%
8
Q
(joint fluid analysis)
predominant cell type is what?
A
NON-DEGENERATVE NEURTORPHIL
9
Q
(tx)
- non-erosive forms treated with what?
- erosive forms?
- sx not used for treatment
A
- NSAIDs or corticosteroids (but not both)
- immunosuppression with cyclophosphamide along with prednisone
10
Q
(prog)
- good for non-erosive 1-3, bad for 4 (neoplasia)
- erosive form?
A
- hard to treat and really expensive!!! so not great i guess
