1.2 Flashcards
What is the metric system?
The metric system is a system of measurement used in many places throughout the world
What is the difference between quantitative and qualitative data?
Quantitative has to do with measurements while qualitative has to do with characteristics and non numerical data.
what is the metric system measurement for length and what does it measure?
meter (distance)
what is the metric system measurement for mass and what does it measure?
gram (matter)
what is the metric system measurement for volume and what does it measure?
liters (space)
what is the metric system measurement for time?
seconds
what is the metric system measurement for temperature and what does it measure?
kelvin (degree of how hot/cold something is)
what does pico mean?
0.000000000001 (10⁻¹²)
what does nano mean?
0.00000001 (10⁻⁹)
what does micro mean?
0.000001(10⁻⁶)
What does milli mean?
0.001 (10⁻³)
what does centi mean?
0.01 (10⁻²)
what does kilo mean?
1000(10³)
What is the formula for converting Celsius to Fahrenheit?
F=(C) (9/5) +32
What is the formula for converting Fahrenheit to Celsius?
C=(F-32)(5/9)
What is Standard Deviation?
Standard deviation is a measure used to quantify the amount of variation in a set of data
What is the median?
The middle number in a data set
What is the difference between mass and volume?
Mass is the amount of matter while volume is how much space something takes up.
What is on the y-axis of a graph?
the dependent variable
What is on the x-axis of a graph?
the independent variable
what does the dependent variable show?
The factor that is measure and will change as a result of the independent variable
what does the independent variable show?
The factor you are changing in the experiment
What type of graph does a change in one variable not affect the other (straight line)
Constant Relationship
What is the difference between a direct and indirect relationship graph?
In a direct relationship, the variable increase together (steady incline) . In an indirect relationship, 1 variable increases and the other decreases (steady decline) .
Convert 2.45 cm to mm
24.5 mm (10⁻² to 10⁻³)
Convert 0.547 mm to nm
547, 000 (10⁻³ to 10⁻⁹)
