A
  • Sudden attack of altered behaviour, consciousness, sensation or autonomic function
  • Causes by a transient disruption of brain function

  • What caused the seizure if known? Mechanism of injury
  • Associated symptoms
  • PmHx e.g. epilepsy, infection
  • Medication compliance

Treatment for seizures?

A
  • Midazolam
  • Supportive measures e.g. Oxygen
  • Protect pt from injury
  • Consider reversible causes e.g. hypoglycaemia, hyperthermia

Adult Midazolam dose for seizures?

A
  • IM: 5mg, repeat 5min, 15mg max dose

- IV: 2.5mg, repeat 5 min, 15mg max dose
