How do you identify and respond appropriately to px’s concerns about their visual welfare?

Answer 1

• Establish and maintains a good professional and/ clinical relationship with the patient to inspire trust and confidence
• Recognises emotion in patients
• Explores patient concerns and provides reassurance where appropriate, using explanations that are relevant to the patient
• Explain the condition simply and calmly & give space for the patient to ask questions.
• Tell the patient what you’re going to do to help them e.g. Referral, potential treatment.
• Point them towards any helpful charities for their condition, e.g. RNIB.
