11.3 (A) Flashcards
Why is provision of a range of mobility options for different groups of people important?
-constraints imposed by physical capability, health related conditions, transport costs, transport system designs and availability of transport modes can limit the mobility of people
-poorly designed transport infrastructure and the inconvenience of travelling can prevent the elderly, wheelchair users and PWDs from travelling
Unable to travel -> may cause some to isolate themselves
-important in developing inclusive transport systems that cater to diverse mobility needs
What do mobility features help to do?
Allow various groups of ppl with different mobility needs to move around more independent and safely
Limitations of provision of a range of mobility options for different groups of people
- installing barrier-free transport facilities with special features for the aged and disabled is expensive
- wastage of resources may occur if special features are not deployed effectively to areas that most need it
- additional space is needed to implement such barrier-free transport facilities
Example of Green Man+ what is it for and how does it work
Give elderly pedestrians and PWDs up to 13 sec of green man time when crossing road
Ease road crossing for elderly pedestrians
Tap senior citizen concession or Green Man+ card to activate it
Example of Pedestrian Audio Signal Systems what is it for and how does it work
Aid visually impaired

Volume of audio signal adjusted based on noise level of surrounding environment
Example of wheelchair ramps, braille & embossed text & tactile indicators, lifts
Allow commuters in wheelchairs board and alight transport modes safely and conveniently, improve access to public transport systems
Assist visually impaired with way finding
Access transport facilities safely with ease
