What is the 1st stage to the recruitment process?
Identify a vacancy - The HR department must review and consider to see if vacancies exist
What is the 2nd stage to the recruitment process?
Job Analysis - The vacancy will be looked at in detail to confirm the tasks and responsibilities a successful candidate must carry out
What is the 3rd stage to the recruitment process?
Job Description - This will contain information about what the job entails including duties, responsibilities, pay/working hours and holiday entitlement
What is the 4th stage to the recruitment process?
Person Specification - This highlights the skills, qualities, qualifications and experiences needed. Some may be essential and others desirable
What is the 5th stage to the recruitment process?
Advertisement - internally or externally
What is the 6th stage to the recruitment process?
Shortlisting - Those who meet both the essential and desirable will be shortlisted as they are the best candidates
What is the 7th stage to the recruitment process?
Selection - Applicants will be evaluated through a method(s) of selection. Successful applicants will be notified. References will be requested at this point
What is the 8th stage to the recruitment process?
Feedback - Business should offer unsuccessful applicants clarification on why they were unsuccessful
What is internal recruitment?
When a business recruits from within the organisation
What are some advantages to internal recruitment?
- Vacancy can be filled relatively quickly
- Motivates staff
- Managers already know staff
- Reduced training and advertising costs costs
- Employees do not need time to adapt
What are some disadvantages to internal recruitment?
- Will open up another vacancy
- Can cause tension amongst staff
- Lack of new ideas
- Less potential candidates
What is external recruitment?
When a business recruits from outside the organisation
What are some advantages to external recruitment?
- Brings in new ideas
- Increases competency (if you’re lacking skills, can bring new skills and qualifications)
- Helps organisations meet equality laws
What are some disadvantages to external recruitment?
- Increased recruitment costs
- New staff may require time to adjust and may not adjust well
- Can cause tension between employees who already work there as opportunities haven’t been given internally
What are some methods to external recruitment?
- Job Adverts
- Headhunting
- Job Centres
- Word of Mouth
- Employment Agencies
- Direct Applicants (businesses may keep applications made by jobseekers)
