1.1.11 Squares and Square Roots Flashcards
In printed tables which amount of digits is more accurate?
4.
How do you use a squares printed table if you wanted to know the square of 1.732?
Go down the column to the first two significant figures i.e. 1.7. Then across the rows to the next significant i.e. 3 and then further across to 2. Add the results together.
Although the printed tables allow you to do squares 1-10, how would you do a number over this i.e. 168.8.
Break it down by 100 so its 1.688² x 100².
How do you position the decimal point in the answer?
For each period moved to the left the decimal must move back right one.
What is a period in square root terms?
Breaking up of a number greater than 100 or less than one to find its square root. Each pair of figures is called a period.

Find the factors of the number and times them all together i.e. 216 gives 2,2,2,3,3,3 (2x3)x(2x3)x(2x3) = 6x6x6
