11. Stability Data supplied to Yachts Flashcards
Define and explain Longitudinal Centre of Flotation (LCF):
It is the Centre of flotation, centre of the water plane area and point about which the vessel trims and can be found in the hydrostatic tables.
What is trim?
Trim is the difference between the forward and aft Drafts.
If the fwd is 2.5m and the aft is 3.5m, you would say the vessel is trimmed 1.0m or 100cm by the stern.
If the Fwd is 3.5m and the aft is 2.5m, you would say the vessel is trimmed 1.0m or 100cm by the head.
Explain Longitudinal Centre of Bouyancy(LCB)?
Is the Longitudinal point through which all the upward forces of bouyancy are said to act.
It is the centre of the under water volume.
What are Tables of limiting KG?
Shows data concerning minimum intact stability criteria,.
Regarding your displacement, if the KG is higher than your require KG for your specific Displacement then you do not comply.
Small KG good, Large KG bad.

- Can be in table form.
