11: MET, ART Flashcards

1
Q

A

Pts muscles are actively used on request, from a precisely controlled position, in a specific direction, against a distinctly executed physician counterforce

One type of eccentric contraction + define it

8
Q

Three things that could go wrong during muscle energy

A
  1. Muscle activity could worsen a pts situation
  2. Contract too hard
  3. Move to a new joint position too soon

Q

Six steps in MET

A
  1. Physician moves pt to restrictive barrier (direct)
  2. Pt contracts away from barrier
  3. Physician resists contraction towards restrictive barrier for 3-5 seconds
  4. Pt and physician relax 1-2 seconds
  5. Pt passively moved into new restrictive barrier
  6. Repeat 3-4 times until no new barriers are reached
