11: Jaundice Flashcards
When does hyperbilirubinemia caused by mixed hemolytic and hepatotoxic factors appear?
May appear in first 24 hours
Which jaundices are direct?
Mixed hemolytic and hepatotoxic factors (both direct and indirect) Hepatocellular damage (both direct and indirect)
When does hyperbilirubinemia caused by hepatocellular damage appear?
Usually 2-3 days
What is the peak bilirubin and when does it occur with physiologic jaundice?
Full-term: 10-12 and occurs days 2-3
Premature: 15 and occurs days 3-4
All hyperbilirubinemia can be greater than 12/15 (metabolic factors) or unlimited peak (all others).
When does physiologic jaundice appear?
Full-term: 2-3 days
Premature: 3-4 days
Which forms of jaundice have bilirubin accumulation rates of <5 per day?
Physiologic jaundice
Hyperbilirubinemia caused by metabolic factors
When does hyperbilirubinemia caused by metabolic factors appear?
Full-term: 2-3 days
Premature: 3-4 days
Which jaundices are indirect?
All of them can be. Only mixed hemolytic and hepatotoxic factors and hepatocellular damage can cause direct jaundice.
When does hyperbilirubinemia caused by hemolytic states and hematoma appear?
May appear in first 24 hours
When does physiologic jaundice usually disappear?
Full-term: 4-5 days
Premature: 7-9 days
