Family/Household
A social group of two or more people who are related by blood, marriage, adoption or foster (family) and usually live together.
Nuclear Family
Married husband, wife and born or adopted children. (Eg:Leave it to Beaver, The SImpsons, Mixed-ish, Black-ish)
Modern Nuclear Family
Married husband, wife, and born or adopted children. But both parents work of a living in the workforce.
Extended Nuclear Family
Family consist of at least three generations (a child, parent, grandparent) living in the same residence. Relatives in addition to parents and unmarried children living together.(Eg: Fresh Prince of Bel Air, 7th Heaven)
Blended, Reconstituted or Step-Family
A family structure created when divorced partners with children marry. Parents with children from one or more previous marriages. (Eg: Brady Bunch, Step by Step, Drake and Josh, Modern Family)
Childless Family
Couple has no children. (Eg: The Kings of Queens)
Single or Lone-Parent Family
A parent either their mother or father with one or more children. (Eg: Gilmore Girls, Reba, Never Have I Ever, Ginny and Georgia.)
Sibling Family
An older brother or sister that takes care of younger siblings (Eg: Party of Five)
Same Sex Family
Two men or two women together, married or unmarried, living together and have children (Eg:Cameron and Mitchel from Modern Family)
Technological Family
Creating a family without physical sex, such as artificial insemination. (Kate and John plus 8)
Foster Family
Includes a child not related to the family, but cares for them as a family member. (Eg: 7th Heaven in some seasons.)
Grandparents Family
Grandparents raise their grandchild, because parents are unfit to do so. (Eg: That 90’s show)
Millionaire Family
Reffered to as a married couple (man and woman) one boy, one girl, and a dog. (Eg: Married with Children) This was the ideal or perfect family of the 2000’s
Other Family
A family that does not fit the family structures that are prescribed by society.
Common law family
Couples living together like husband and wife, without having a legal document that says they are married. (Eg: Soap Operas)
Joint Family
More than one family living in the same complex, usually parents and their children and adult children and their spouses.
Adoptive Family
Families that adopt children may have children of their own or not, but they decide to adopt a child. (Eg: New 90210, The Fosters)….
